PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
For our younger students, their homework and Bond/CGP books enable us to keep an eye on their progress on a weekly basis. We are constantly monitoring children's performance in class to inform our lesson planning and ensure that they are making good progress. To help us with this, we have a number of quizzes that we use in class to review subjects regularly and check that children remember all that they have learnt.
Using our many years of experience and our knowledge of your child is an individual, we always have a good idea of whether your child is progressing in class as they should. Given that children work at different speeds and have different levels of background knowledge before starting classes, we focus primarily on individual progress and in helping a child to live up to their full potential, rather than measuring against specific targets.
If we feel, for any reason, that anything is hindering your child's progress, we are always proactive in contacting parents to discuss this. Similarly, if you are preparing for the 11+ and we feel that your child is getting off track in some way, we will certainly get in touch. Parents/carers are also welcome to contact us if they are confused about how to support their child at home.
YEAR 4 ELEVEN PLUS STUDENTS
If you have a child in Year 4 that is preparing for the 11+, you may wish for them to sit a mock exam at the end of the academic year. Advice on Year 4 mock testing can be found in this blogpost - https://kinlearning.com/2020/03/04/mock-test-faqs-should-my-year-4-child-sit-an-eleven-plus-mock.
YEAR 5 ELEVEN PLUS STUDENTS
As with our Year 4 students, we use quizzes throughout the school year to review children's existing knowledge and highlight gaps that we need to fill. These are largely used to inform our lesson plans, however, we will contact parents if we feel that the child will need additional support from home in order to progress in these areas.
Although we generally have a good idea of how a child is progressing and whether they are on track to perform well in the 11+, we do recommend that students take at least one mock test with us during Year 5. Mock tests give us the opportunity to see how a student performs in an exam environment and how they compare to their peers. We run mock tests from April to September each year. More information is available here - https://kinlearning.com/11-plus-mock-tests/.
SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Secondary school students will be tested regularly at school, which gives us and you an idea of whether their classes are paying off. In order to avoid duplicating tests, we ask that students bring their school tests into class wherever possible so that we can see where they're going wrong and plan our lessons accordingly.
