In class, we focus more on progress rather than scores as we want to encourage children to learn for the pleasure of it rather than learning purely for the purposes of passing an exam. We do this as research shows that children with this attitude are more likely to succeed later in life. Behind the scenes, we are constantly keeping an eye on whether children appear to be on track for the 11+ and will intervene immediately if there appears to be a problem. We will also be proactive in communicating this with their parents.
Although we generally have a good idea of how a child is progressing and whether they are on track to perform well in the 11+, we do recommend that students take at least one mock test with us during Year 5. Mock tests give us the opportunity to see how a student performs in an exam environment and how they compare to their peers. We run mock tests from April to September each year.
